Auburn legend Cadillac William’s Replacement…

Cadillac Williams

It has been an eventful week for college football coaching updates in Alabama. On Thursday evening, Auburn Tigers associate head coach and running backs coach Carnell “Cadillac” Williams announced his resignation. Although the announcement may not have created the same widespread national impact as Nick Saban’s retirement from the Alabama Crimson Tide on Wednesday, it remains a highly significant development.

Having played at Auburn from 2001–04, Williams has been a part of the coaching staff since 2019. In a statement released through the university on Thursday night, he expressed, “After taking time to pray and reflect, I have made the decision to resign from my position with Auburn football to pursue other opportunities.

I love Auburn, the players, and the AU family with all my heart, but this decision is what’s best for me, my wife, and my sons. I am extremely grateful for the coaching opportunity first given to me by Coach Malzahn and most recently by Coach Freeze. These past five years on the Plains have been nothing short of incredible. Auburn is and always will be a special part of my life. War Eagle!”

Selected as the fifth overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Williams played the majority of his seven NFL seasons with Tampa, concluding his career with the St. Louis Rams. In his debut season in 2005, he earned the title of AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, showcasing an impressive performance with 1,178 rushing yards and six touchdowns.
