Is there a possibility that an Ole Miss coach might become Auburn’s next offensive coordinator working with Hugh Freeze?

After achieving significant success, it’s common for coaching staff changes to occur. Recent reports from AL.com suggest that Derrick Nix, the associate head coach and wide receivers coach for the Ole Miss Rebels, is speculated to be a top contender for the offensive coordinator role under Hugh Freeze at the Auburn Tigers.

This news follows the exit of Cadillac Williams from the Tigers’ coaching staff and amid speculation that Freeze will take on play-calling responsibilities in 2024.

The excerpt suggests that there are rumors circulating about Derrick Nix, the current wide receivers coach at Ole Miss and former running backs coach under Hugh Freeze, being a leading candidate for the offensive coordinator position. It is noted that Freeze attempted to bring in Nix last offseason for the same role, but it did not materialize.

Auburn, at that time, was unwilling to part ways with Cadillac Williams, considering his performance in the final four games of the 2022 season. Nix, originally from Atalla, Alabama, began his coaching career as a graduate assistant with the Southern Miss Golden Eagles in 2003.

After a brief stint with the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons in 2007, he joined the Ole Miss staff in 2008 as the running backs coach, later transitioning to the role of wide receivers coach when Lane Kiffin took over as head coach. In 2022, Nix was named assistant head coach.
