A Raiders executive criticizes Brock Purdy of the 49ers with a puzzling assessment of his performance as a playoff quarterback.
Amy Trask, the former CEO of the Las Vegas Raiders during their time in Oakland, discussed the upcoming NFL Playoff games in the Divisional Round on a podcast. Specifically focusing on the quarterbacks in each team, Trask suggested that among all the remaining players in the postseason, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is deemed the least impressive. This information was sourced from The SFNiners Twitter account, attributing the insights to “The Rich Eisen Show.”
“We’ve got four games this week, which means we have eight quarterbacks—I did that math on my own,” Trask remarked. “Among these eight quarterbacks, we have seven impressive ones, and then there’s Brock Purdy.”

She acknowledged that Purdy is a capable player in his position and advised fans of the 49ers franchise to remain calm. However, she stood firm in her assessment of Purdy, emphasizing that she doesn’t place him in the same league as the other quarterbacks.
“Now, Brock Purdy is a good quarterback; let’s be clear about that. Everyone, 49ers fans, stay calm,” Trask stated. “I’m not suggesting that Brock isn’t a good quarterback. He is. I just don’t consider him on the same level as the other quarterbacks. So, to reiterate, we have eight quarterbacks, seven of whom I find terrific, and then there’s Brock Purdy.”
Among the quarterbacks remaining in the NFL playoffs are Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs, Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills, Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens, CJ Stroud of the Houston Texans, Jared Goff of the Detroit Lions, Baker Mayfield of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Jordan Love of the Green Bay Packers. According to Trask, she regards the seven mentioned as “terrific,” while Purdy does not fall into that category.
Trask notes that Purdy benefits from being “surrounded by an outstanding supporting cast” within the 49ers team.
Trask refrained from delving into extensive details, but when asked by the show’s host why she has reservations about Purdy, she clarified that she doesn’t harbor any dislike for the 24-year-old 49ers signal-caller. Trask emphasized that Purdy benefits from a remarkable supporting cast on both sides of the ball, encompassing offense and defense, and reiterated that he is a proficient quarterback. “It’s not a matter of disliking him. He does things very well,” Trask stated. “He is surrounded by a tremendous supporting cast on both offense and defense; he is a good quarterback. However, I don’t place him in the same category as the other seven.”
Despite the ongoing scrutiny and consistent inquiries about his skill level, Purdy exudes confidence heading into this weekend’s playoff game against the Packers. According to David Bonilla of 49ers Webzone, Purdy expressed that this season feels “a little different.” Reflecting on the previous year, when he was still finding his footing after being thrust into the action, Purdy acknowledged his progress in understanding his role as a quarterback and becoming more familiar with the team’s system.
The divisional round playoff clash between the 49ers and Packers is scheduled for Saturday night at 8:15 p.m. (EST). San Francisco, having secured the No. 1 seed in the NFC, enjoys a bye week’s rest, while the Packers earned their spot by upsetting the Dallas Cowboys last weekend.
