Buffalo Bills Assistant Coach Eric Washington Makes Significant Contributions to Grambling State University
Eric Washington, an assistant coach for the Buffalo Bills and a former Grambling football player, gave to his alma mater twice in the last year.
According to a release from the school, Buffalo Bills assistant coach Eric Washington has been heavily involved in giving back to his alma university, Grambling State University, during the past year. $51,500 has been kindly donated by Washington to Grambling; $15,000 will go toward the GAP Scholarship Fund, and $36,500 will be utilized to raise the pay and positions of GSU’s baseball coaching staff. Washington has given to Grambling twice in the last year, this time contributing $30,000 to the GAP Scholarship Fund in March 2023.
Foundations and generous contributors provide funding for the GAP Scholarship Fund, which is intended to support final-semester students who have run out of other sources of financial aid. They support students in reaching their graduation objectives and act as a financial bridge.
Washington publicly shows gratitude to Grambling and supports the organization that helped him launch a coaching career in the NFL. He transferred from Morehouse College his freshman year and played for the great Eddie Robinson. After that, he played tight end for the Tigers from 1989 to 1990, and in 1993, he received his degree from the university.
He attributes his present professional path as an NFL coach to his experience at Grambling, according to remarks made in a statement regarding Washington’s donation in March 2023.
Many members of my family are ardent fans and alumni of Grambling, which is how I became involved with the school. I was also aware that the primary purpose of Grambling’s creation was to prepare and educate future teachers. Eddie Robinson was, bar none, a better professional role model than my parents, John and Patsy Washington. As a professional football coach, I have tried to define my identity based on Coach Rob’s commitment to teaching, his demand for personal investment, and his insistence on aiming for greatness.
He talked about the value of returning to his former school.
After making his first gift to GSU in March 2023, Washington stated, “Reinvesting or ‘giving back’ is not assessed against a monetary value.” “My goal is to raise awareness of the obligation to those who call Grambling home, especially those of us who attended and benefited from our experiences, in addition to offering financial support. Make the most of what you have and follow the spirit of noble goals.
As an assistant coach, Washington presently works for the Buffalo Bills as both a senior defensive assistant and a defensive line coach. He previously played in college at Ohio, Texas A&M, and Northwestern, as well as with the Chicago Bears and Carolina Panthers.
In the AFC Divisional Round of the 2024 NFL Playoffs, the Washington Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs will square off. This is a rematch of the thrilling game between the two teams that resulted in an overtime win for Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs in the 2022 AFC Divisional Round.
