Chiefs’ victory against the Bills created NFL Playoff history.
Under legendary head coach Andy Reid, the Kansas City Chiefs were expected to enter the 2023 season as good as, if not better than, their 2022 campaign, in which Patrick Mahomes and team demolished the opposition and earned a second Super Bowl title.
Sadly, Mahomes and his club were not the same football team as the reigning Super Bowl champions, as they lacked excellent wide receivers and were unable to score points in the same manner as they had during the previous five or six years.
The Chiefs were a different team heading into the NFL playoffs, and a first-round departure was not out of the question, despite winning the AFC West division title once more and winning 11 of their 17 games.
For the Chiefs’ benefit, they easily defeated the Miami Dolphins in the first round then defeated Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills in the second round, creating NFL history in the process.
The Chiefs are the first club in league history to win at least two playoff games in five consecutive seasons, according to PFF KC Chiefs.
It’s remarkable that the Chiefs are still accomplishing historic feats despite what has been viewed as somewhat of a poor season. This is especially true given the franchise’s longevity with Mahomes at the helm.
It will be interesting to watch if the Chiefs can win another Super Bowl and carry on with their winning ways in the postseason.
