Breaking News: The Green Bay Packers are closing in on a potential defensive coordinator…

Amidst the ongoing coaching changes in the NFL, the fate of Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero remains uncertain. Despite interviewing for head coaching positions with several teams after the season, Evero has not secured a head coaching opportunity yet. The remaining head coaching vacancies are with the Seattle Seahawks, where he had a second interview, and the Washington Commanders.

Conflicting reports surround Evero’s potential move to another team as defensive coordinator in 2024. Joseph Person from The Athletic reported that Carolina blocked interview requests from the New York Giants, Miami Dolphins, and Jacksonville Jaguars for Evero. However,

Albert Breer from Sports Illustrated suggested that Evero is a top candidate for the Los Angeles Rams and Green Bay Packers’ defensive coordinator positions. Breer also mentioned that Evero’s current coordinator salary exceeds $3 million annually, a noteworthy figure compared to the salaries of first-time NFL head coaches in the current market.

The situation is ambiguous, and Evero’s status as a potential defensive coordinator for a team other than the Panthers remains uncertain. Carolina has blocked interview requests, but it is unclear if they will retain Evero. The Seahawks’ head coaching position is still in play, and until Evero clarifies his stance or withdraws from consideration for the Seahawks role, questions about his future will persist.

It’s worth noting that Evero was a finalist for the Green Bay Packers’ defensive coordinator position in 2021, which eventually went to Joe Barry. Evero, a former defensive quality control coach with the Packers, started his full-time on-field coaching career with the Los Angeles Rams under head coach Sean McVay.

After serving as the Rams’ safeties coach, secondary coach, and passing game coordinator, Evero became the Denver Broncos’ defensive coordinator in 2022. However, he was released from his contract when Sean Payton became the Broncos’ head coach in 2023, leading to his signing with the Carolina Panthers.
