This week, standout pass rusher Josh Allen of the Jacksonville Jaguars conveyed a strong message to general manager Trent Baalkle regarding his impending free agency. Allen, who had an outstanding season in 2023 with the second-highest number of sacks in the league (17.5), has entered the spotlight as he approaches free agency.

As reported earlier on GH, Baalke assured Jaguars fans in January that the team is committed to retaining Allen for the 2024 season, even mentioning the possibility of using the franchise tag if necessary. According to the Jaguars website, Baalke stated emphatically that Allen “will be a Jaguar” for the upcoming season. While expressing the team’s intention to keep Allen, Baalke also acknowledged that discussions for a multi-year extension are in the early stages. He raised the prospect of using the franchise tag as a temporary solution while emphasizing the importance of reaching a mutually agreeable number in negotiations:

“Those negotiations will start,” Baalke explained. “I know Josh wants to be here. I know we want him here. Can we come to a number that works for everybody? That’s the key, and I respect that. You have to respect these guys that put themselves in this position. They work hard. They deserve to make good money. What that ‘good’ means to them could be different than what it means to us. We just have to come together, sit down at the table, and work things out.”
