He was previously caught in 2019 for DUI and sentenced to 40 days in jail. However, he served this time on weekends while complying to the terms of his sentence.
The timing of this latest arrest could not be more problematic, given that his son is about to compete in the Super Bowl against the San Francisco 49ers. The younger Mahomes, a rising NFL star, is preparing to lead his team in one of the year’s most important sporting events.
Mahomes Sr. has recently been in the spotlight for reasons other than his son’s football abilities. Just weeks earlier, he made news by joking that he wouldn’t sit next to Taylor Swift at the AFC Conference Championship game.
“I hope not,” he quipped with Evan Roberts of WFAN Sports Radio when asked if he would share a suit with Swift.
“No, I do not think so. Travis usually has his own thing, and Patrick has his own arrangement, too.”
“And I imagine if Taylor wants her own suite, she’s got enough money to get whichever one she wants.”
With his legal difficulties, it’s unclear whether he’ll be able to attend the Super Bowl to support his son on February 11.
