Auburn and Miami are intensifying their efforts to secure the commitment of a recent 5-star decommitment from Notre Dame.

Notre Dame’s head coach, Marcus Freeman, is recognized for his strong recruiting abilities, but even he faces challenges in securing every prospect. The case of 4-star EDGE CJ May from Highland Home, Alabama, exemplifies this, as Freeman initially succeeded in securing May’s commitment in September 2023. However, the 6-foot-4, 225-pound recruit has since reversed his decision, announcing his decommitment on Monday.

The decommitment from CJ May appears to be influenced more by geographical considerations than any dissatisfaction with Notre Dame. May expressed that the distance from home played a significant role in his decision-making process, citing a need to find the best fit for himself. Hailing from Alabama and valuing his comfort and happiness for the next 3-4 years, May decided to reassess his commitment.

As May reevaluates his options, Auburn emerges as a key contender in his recruitment. Auburn was among the finalists when May initially committed, alongside Clemson and Tennessee. Notably, May recently took an unofficial visit to Auburn, indicating a renewed interest in the Tigers. It will be interesting to see how the recruitment unfolds, with Auburn positioned as a noteworthy contender for the talented 4-star prospect.

Indeed, it seems that Miami is actively pursuing CJ May as well. May’s social media activity indicates a strong push from Miami, with head coach Mario Cristobal personally visiting him. The visible mutual interest between May and the Miami coaching staff suggests that the Hurricanes are making concerted efforts to secure his commitment. As May evaluates his options following the decommitment from Notre Dame, Miami emerges as another significant player in the recruitment process, adding to the intrigue of where the talented prospect will ultimately choose to play.
