Breaking news: The Patriots have enlisted a fresh assistant coach for their offensive line.

As Jerod Mayo and Alex Van Pelt continue assembling their offensive coaching staff, reports indicate that they’ve enlisted assistance for the offensive line.

According to Aaron Wilson of Houston KPRC2, the Patriots are bringing on board Scott Peters, who previously served as the assistant offensive line coach for the Cleveland Browns. Although his specific title has not been disclosed.

Peters has been with the Browns for the past four seasons, working closely with renowned coach Bill Callahan to develop the offensive line. Notably, during his tenure, right tackle Jack Conklin earned first-team AP All-Pro honors in his debut season, while guards Joel Bitonio and Wyatt Teller received second-team honors.

The Browns also exhibited notable success in rushing, ranking third in the league in Peters’ first season and achieving the top rank in 2021 with a 5.09 mark, the highest average by a Browns team since 1966.

Prior to launching his coaching career in Cleveland, Peters played as an offensive lineman himself, primarily at guard and center. Selected in the fourth round of the 2002 draft, Peters enjoyed a seven-season NFL career, representing five different franchises.

Beyond football, the 45-year-old boasts a significant background in martial arts, having clinched two Brazilian Jiu Jitsu world championships in submission grappling.

Peters has leveraged these techniques to enhance the training of offensive linemen, drawing parallels to Patriots’ long-serving skill development coach Joe Kim, who specializes in incorporating martial arts methods.
