“Exploring Left Tackle Options: Green Bay Packers’ Strategies for Addressing David Bakhtiari’s Future in the 2024 NFL Draft”

The Green Bay Packers possess two second-round picks in the 2024 NFL draft, a result of last year’s Aaron Rodgers trade. Could one of these picks potentially be utilized to secure a replacement for left tackle David Bakhtiari?

As the 2024 offseason approaches, the Packers face a decision regarding Bakhtiari’s future. While the five-time All-Pro has one season remaining on his contract, he is still recovering from a recent injury setback to his surgically repaired left knee and carries a hefty $40 million cap hit into the 2023 season.

Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine suggests that Denver Broncos left tackle Garett Bolles, a 2020 All-Pro, could be a viable option for the Packers via trade. Ballentine proposes the exchange of the Packers’ own second-round selection (No. 58 overall) for Bolles, providing experienced protection for Jordan Love’s blindside.

Despite Bolles’ impressive performance with the Broncos in 2023, the Packers face salary-cap constraints of their own, needing to clear approximately $7.39 million in space before March 13. Considering Bolles’ age (31) and contractual status, a trade for him may not align with the Packers’ long-term plans.

Furthermore, the Packers possess ample draft resources, including three selections in the first two rounds of the 2024 NFL draft. They could potentially find a starting left tackle with their No. 25 overall pick or later in the draft. Rasheed Walker, who started in 2023 in place of Bakhtiari, showed promise, suggesting the Packers may already have a viable option at the position.

Ultimately, the Packers aim to solidify the left tackle position to support Jordan Love’s development as their long-term quarterback. Whether through existing options or draft selections, they seek a solution that ensures stability and chemistry on the offensive line for years to come.
