New York Jets Eye Quarterback Prospect Michael Pratt in 2024 NFL Draft: Could He Be the Green Team’s Next Signal Caller?

Should the New York Jets be seeking a backup quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft, they would be wise to evaluate Tulane's Michael Pratt as a potential candidate.

Could the New York Jets secure quarterback and 2024 NFL Draft hopeful Michael Pratt to don their green uniform as he embarks on his NFL journey?

As the Jets are anticipated to explore trade avenues for 2021 No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson, reports suggest they are in search of a backup for starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers. This could lead them to consider drafting a player for the role, with Pratt likely on their radar as a potential Day 3 pick.

Pratt assumed the starting quarterback role for the Tulane Green Wave just three games into his freshman year, swiftly impressing coaches and teammates alike. His freshman season saw him amass 1,806 passing yards and 20 touchdown passes, alongside 229 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. Progressing to his sophomore year, Pratt achieved a completion rate of 57.6% with 2,381 passing yards, 21 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. However, it was his standout performance in his junior year, throwing for 3,009 yards and 27 touchdowns while showcasing notable rushing prowess with 478 yards and 10 touchdowns, that garnered national attention.

Pratt’s senior season further solidified his potential as an NFL prospect, where he completed 65.4% of his passes for 2,406 yards and 22 touchdowns, adding five rushing touchdowns. His stellar performance earned him the 2023 AAC Offensive Player of the Year award, culminating in a thrilling victory in the Cotton Bowl Classic.

Following an impressive showing at the Senior Bowl, Pratt may have elevated his draft stock, demonstrating arm strength and field awareness. While his confidence is an asset, he may need to temper his inclination for high-risk plays at the professional level.

Should Pratt be available in the mid-to-late rounds, the Jets could discover a promising quarterback capable of serving as a competent backup and potential spot starter.
