Rumor: After hiring a new coach, the Broncos signed Saints quarterback

As the 2024 NFL offseason progresses, the Denver Broncos are witnessing significant changes following an underwhelming 8-9 season. The focus now shifts to making the necessary moves to secure a coveted postseason spot next year.

While the process of on-field additions to the roster has yet to commence, the Broncos have made notable changes on the coaching staff under head coach Sean Payton. Last week, they welcomed Pete Carmichael to Payton’s staff as an offensive assistant. Carmichael previously served as the offensive coordinator with the New Orleans Saints from 2009 to 2023, playing a significant role alongside Payton during his tenure.

During Payton’s tenure with the Saints, Taysom Hill emerged as a wildcard, showcasing unique positional versatility within his offensive system. Hill’s ability to play multiple positions, including receiver, running back, and quarterback, consistently poses challenges for opposing defenses.

There are indications that the 33-year-old Hill could be on Denver’s radar this summer, particularly with Carmichael joining the Broncos’ coaching staff. According to Mike Klis of 9NEWS, Carmichael’s hiring could potentially pave the way for Hill’s addition to the Broncos’ roster ahead of next season.

Hill’s contractual situation makes a move to Denver more feasible, as his current deal includes non-guaranteed money, allowing the Saints to part ways with him without financial implications. Given the Saints’ cap constraints, such a move is within reason if they seek to trim their payroll.

In the 2023 season, Hill showcased his versatility by accumulating 401 rushing yards, 291 receiving yards, and six touchdowns. Despite potentially entering the later stages of his playing career, he could still provide a valuable complementary role in Payton’s offense in Denver, serving as an explosive weapon for the team’s quarterbacks.

While Hill remains under contract with the Saints, the possibility of his departure may depend on the Saints’ offseason decisions. Nevertheless, if the Saints opt for a new direction, the Broncos could emerge as a prime destination for the seasoned veteran of seven NFL seasons.
