What roles are Mike Macdonald and Ryan Grubb assuming with the Seattle Seahawks?

Mike Macdonald, formerly the defensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens, is transitioning to the role of head coach for the Seattle Seahawks. Alongside him, Ryan Grubb will join as the team’s new offensive coordinator.

During the 2023 season, Mike Macdonald, anticipating his emergence as a highly sought-after coaching candidate in the 2024 cycle, had already begun considering potential staff members for his future team.

One name that stood out to him was Ryan Grubb, a candidate whom Macdonald believed possessed the right expertise to contribute to Seattle’s new identity under his leadership.

“Running the ball will be one of our core identities,” Macdonald emphasized. “Ryan’s background as an offensive line specialist resonates with me, and I value that aspect of his coaching philosophy.”

Despite considering multiple candidates for the offensive coordinator position, Grubb emerged as the standout choice for the Seahawks. Macdonald had closely observed Grubb’s contributions to Washington football and recognized his coaching style as compatible with his vision. Now, Macdonald looks forward to implementing their shared vision with the Seahawks.

Under Grubb’s guidance, Washington’s offense achieved notable success, culminating in a National Championship Game appearance against Michigan.

The team boasted impressive statistics, ranking 12th in total offense with an average of 462.1 yards per game. Additionally, they ranked 13th in scoring offense, averaging 36 points per game, showcasing Grubb’s ability to orchestrate an effective and high-scoring offensive unit.

In 2024, Mike Macdonald aims to guide the Seahawks back to the playoffs, with Ryan Grubb by his side as the offensive leader, a coach Macdonald had identified as a key component even before assuming the head coaching position.
