Why Jim Leonhard was appointed head coach of the Denver Broncos

Jim Leonhard has secured his debut coaching role in the NFL.

According to ESPN’s Dan Graziano, Leonhard is set to join the Denver Broncos’ coaching staff as the coach for their secondary.

Leonhard, aged 41, enjoyed a stellar collegiate career as a safety at Wisconsin, earning three All-American honors. Transitioning to the NFL, he played from 2005 to 2014, amassing 431 tackles and 14 interceptions during his tenure.

His coaching journey commenced in 2016 at his alma mater, where he eventually rose to the position of defensive coordinator in 2017. Notably,

he also served as interim head coach for the Badgers in 2022 before departing following Luke Fickell’s appointment. Last season, Leonhard worked as an analyst for Illinois. Now, it appears he is poised to make his NFL coaching debut, marking a significant milestone in his coaching career.
