Just In:QB Option Emerges for Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers are in the market for a quarterback, potentially to compete with Kenny Pickett. While they are hopeful for Mason Rudolph to re-sign, NFL analyst Rich Eisen has suggested another option: former Las Vegas Raider Jimmy Garoppolo. With Rudolph’s future uncertain, Garoppolo could be signed as Pickett’s backup.
Garoppolo, who is facing a two-game suspension for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy, is expected to be released by the Raiders before mid-March. Although Rudolph is currently the Steelers’ preferred choice, reports suggest he may seek opportunities elsewhere, leaving Pittsburgh in need of a veteran quarterback.
Eisen believes that Garoppolo could initially join the Steelers as a backup but could ultimately compete for a starting role. Despite skepticism about his future as a starter, Garoppolo has a strong track record, boasting a 43-20 record as a starter with 94 touchdowns and 51 interceptions. He led the San Francisco 49ers to a Super Bowl appearance in 2019, demonstrating his capabilities as a starting quarterback.
