what is happening to WR Hunter Renfrow?

Just a couple of seasons ago, Hunter Renfrow was considered one of the NFL’s top slot receivers. In 2021, the Las Vegas Raiders player earned a Pro Bowl selection with 103 catches for 1,038 yards and nine touchdowns.

Renfrow’s impressive performance led to a two-year, $32 million contract extension from the Raiders. However, injuries limited him to just 10 games in the 2022 season, which was expected to be a rebound year for him. Unfortunately, it turned out to be the worst season of his career.

Despite being on the trade block for a year, the Raiders were unable to trade Renfrow. Now, Pro Football Focus suggests that the Raiders are in a good financial position to release Renfrow this offseason.

The potential replacement of Hunter Renfrow by Davante Adams and Jakobi Meyers as the top two receivers, along with the emergence of rookie Tre Tucker, has been a topic of discussion for some time. The Raiders have reportedly explored trading Renfrow for over a year, and releasing him would free up $8.2 million in salary cap space.Hunter Renfrow, Raiders

Despite Renfrow’s past contributions to the team, his role has diminished, making a split between him and the Raiders likely beneficial for both parties. Additionally, the Raiders are expected to release quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who has been suspended for the first two games of the 2024 season for a violation of the NFL’s Performance Enhancing Substances Policy. This move could save the team more than $10 million in salary cap space.
