Atlanta Falcons to sign Leonard Williams from the Seattle Seahawks.

With the NFL Scouting Combine behind us, focus is shifting to free agency, which could be crucial for the Atlanta Falcons as they aim to strengthen a roster under new coach Raheem Morris, hoping for a playoff push. Last season, they utilized over $60 million in cap space to acquire key defensive players like Bud Dupree, Calais Campbell, David Onyemata, Kaden Elliss, and Jessie Bates III.

Looking ahead, the Falcons might target further reinforcements, with Bleacher Report suggesting Leonard Williams from the Seattle Seahawks as a potential signing. Williams, if acquired, would likely play end for the Falcons, especially considering the possible departures of pass-rushers Bud Dupree and Calais Campbell. This role could provide Williams with numerous one-on-one rushing opportunities, especially with Grady Jarrett and David Onyemata drawing attention on the interior.

The potential signing of Leonard Williams would indeed be a significant move for the Atlanta Falcons, instantly bolstering their defensive line. The 29-year-old began his career with the New York Jets before being traded to the New York Giants and then to the Seattle Seahawks last season.

Williams made an immediate impact for the Seahawks after being acquired at the trade deadline. In just 10 games with Seattle, he recorded 41 tackles, nine for a loss, 11 quarterback hits, and four sacks. Combining his stats from eight games with the Giants, Williams finished the season with 62 tackles, 10 for a loss, and 5.5 sacks.

Given the potential departures of Calais Campbell (considering retirement) and Bud Dupree (contract expiring), the Falcons could benefit from Williams’ presence on the defensive line. Pairing Williams with Grady Jarrett would give Atlanta two versatile interior linemen who can play inside and out, depending on defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake’s scheme.

The key consideration will be Williams’ salary expectations in free agency. Spotrac projects his market value at $16.7 million annually, suggesting he could land a three-year deal worth $50 million.
