Two strategic maneuvers that could propel the Detroit Lions to…

The Detroit Lions lived up to the preseason hype in 2023 by reaching the NFC Championship Game, where they held a commanding 24-7 lead at halftime. However, they ultimately relinquished that lead and fell short, losing 34-31 to the San Francisco 49ers.

General manager Brad Holmes has emphasized that he doesn’t subscribe to the belief that the team is just “one player away” from success. However, he hasn’t completely disregarded the possibility of making a significant acquisition this offseason. With several key areas identified as major offseason needs, the potential for a significant roster move remains on the table and shouldn’t be dismissed outright.

Immediately following the defeat to San Francisco, head coach Dan Campbell acknowledged that it might have represented the best opportunity for that particular group of players to reach a conference title game or even win a Super Bowl.

While his assessment may have been accurate at the time, it’s essential to recognize that the Lions are not fading into obscurity anytime soon. Instead, they are actively taking the necessary steps to contend for and potentially win a Super Bowl. Super Bowl opportunities are finite, and the Lions find themselves in their prime window presently.

This isn’t to suggest that the team should engage in questionable or reckless maneuvers. General manager Brad Holmes has consistently demonstrated a commitment to prudent decision-making, prioritizing moves that align with the team’s needs and culture.

While the path to Super Bowl contention may not require an extensive list of blockbuster moves, there are two specific actions that could significantly enhance the Lions’ chances. These moves, though distinct and likely not both feasible, align perfectly with Holmes’ approach and could propel the Lions towards championship success.
