Breaking News: The Patriots bolster their offense with the addition 25 year old 5 star Player.
Despite calls from fans for help at receiver and on the offensive line, the New England Patriots have strengthened their running game’s third-down capabilities by reaching an agreement with former Washington Commanders running back Antonio Gibson.
Gibson, a veteran of four NFL seasons, brings a versatile skill set that should see him quickly integrate into the Patriots’ system. During his time in Washington, he has gained 2,643 yards on 642 carries with 22 touchdowns. Additionally, the Memphis alum has excelled as a receiving option out of the backfield, hauling in 172 passes for 1,283 yards and seven touchdowns.
Despite a high-ankle sprain sidelining him for the latter part of the season, Rhamondre Stevenson still managed to tally 619 rushing yards and four touchdowns, averaging four yards per attempt. He also proved valuable in the passing game, catching 38 passes for 238 yards and seven touchdowns. Additionally, Stevenson showcased his versatility by returning kicks, amassing 826 yards on 35 returns, averaging 23.6 yards per return since 2022.
Last season, the Patriots relied on a committee approach at receiver, with Jalen Reagor and rookie Kayshon Boutte stepping up in the absence of Marcus Jones, who primarily handles punt returns.
Gibson’s arrival addresses the Patriots’ need for a third-down option behind lead back Rhamondre Stevenson. Stevenson, when healthy, is expected to be a focal point of the offense under new coordinator Alex Van Pelt. Veteran free agent Ezekiel Elliott filled in admirably in Stevenson’s absence, leading the team in rushing yards (642) and receptions (51). Kevin Harris served as the top reserve in the latter part of the season, while Ja’Mycal Hasty was mostly a healthy scratch.
