The Green Bay Packers have loss a star running back ahead of the 2024 NFL season.

Following the acquisition of Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs for the upcoming season, the Green Bay Packers have reportedly notified their star player Aaron Jones of his release, as reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Jones, who was drafted by Green Bay in the fifth round in 2017, quickly rose to become their primary running back, but will now seek opportunities with another team.

Aaron Jones faced numerous injuries while playing for the Green Bay Packers during the 2023 season.

Although Aaron Jones has been the primary running back for Green Bay in recent seasons, his performance in 2023 was hindered by multiple injuries, causing him to miss a total of 7 games during the regular season.

However, he showcased his dominance upon returning to full health towards the end of the season, averaging over 110 yards per game on the ground in the last 5 games.

Jones, a Pro Bowl running back who led the league in rushing touchdowns in 2019, is entering his 8th NFL season. At 29 years old, he will now have the chance to explore the free agency market and join a new team.

As Jones departs, Jacobs is set to assume the role of the primary running back for Green Bay, while AJ Dillon’s future remains uncertain. Jones will enter a running back market that includes unsigned players like Derrick Henry and Austin Ekeler, but given his strong performances late in the previous season, he is expected to attract offers swiftly from other teams.
