$76 million breakout star reacts with three words after Vikings announce contract.
The Minnesota Vikings face a collective challenge in replacing Danielle Hunter, particularly given the departure or free agency status of other players in his position.
Jonathan Greenard, the new edge rusher for the Vikings, will spearhead this effort. After an impressive 12.5 sack season with the Houston Texans, Greenard secured a lucrative four-year, $76 million contract with the Vikings. The team officially announced the deal on March 13, the opening day of the new league year. Greenard’s succinct three-word response to the news resonated strongly.
Greenard was drafted by the Houston Texans in the third round (90th overall) of the 2020 draft.
Before his breakout season, Greenard had accumulated 10.5 career sacks. He surpassed this mark in 2021, setting a new career high with 8.0 sacks.
The Vikings have also signed former Miami Dolphins pass rusher Andre Van Ginkel to a two-year, $20 million contract, aiming to strengthen their defensive group for the upcoming season. Van Ginkel achieved a career-best 6.0 sacks last season.
Greenard will be reunited with his former Texans teammate Blake Cashman, who recently joined the Vikings as a linebacker.
