Vikings to Trade 3 Firsts, Move Up to Draft Champion QB

The Minnesota Vikings are actively pursuing a rookie quarterback in the upcoming 2024 NFL draft, as evidenced by their recent strategic moves.

In order to improve their draft position, the Vikings traded two second-round picks, including this year’s No. 42 selection and their 2025 second-rounder, along with the No. 188 overall pick, to the Houston Texans. In exchange, they acquired the 23rd selection in the draft. With these moves, the Vikings now possess the 11th and 23rd picks in the first round, positioning them favorably to potentially trade up, perhaps into the top 5, to secure a quarterback.

Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report proposed a trade scenario on March 15, in which the Vikings use their two first-round picks to move up and select former Michigan Wolverines quarterback J.J. McCarthy.

The Vikings are strategizing to trade up for a quarterback, aiming to possibly enter the top 10 picks to select McCarthy or another available quarterback.

Opting for a rookie quarterback through the draft aligns with the franchise’s long-term goals, allowing the rookie to develop alongside 24-year-old Jefferson.Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, Vikings

Before the trade with the Texans, the Vikings were already ahead of the Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders in the draft order. This trade puts them in the best position among teams in need of a quarterback to secure McCarthy.
