Broncos have secured the services of a 26-year-old offensive tackle for an undisclosed fee.
According to Mike Klis of 9NEWS Denver, the Denver Broncos are signing former New York Giants offensive tackle to a one-year deal.
Matt Peart, a 6-7, 315-pound tackle, was a third-round pick by the Giants in the 2020 NFL Draft. In four seasons with the Giants, he played 43 games, starting 7.
Last season, he played 8 games with 1 start. Despite showing promise, the Giants began to lose confidence in him. With Garett Bolles and Mike McGlinchey as the entrenched starters, Peart will compete with Alex Palczewski for the swing tackle role this offseason.
It seems like the Broncos have a decent mix of experience and potential in their current tackle group, with Peart providing veteran depth and Palczewski offering developmental upside.
If the team is comfortable with this group, they may indeed pass on drafting a tackle early. However, adding competition through the draft could still be beneficial, especially if they find a prospect they really like on day three.
It ultimately depends on how confident they are in their current tackles and if they see an opportunity to upgrade or add depth through the draft.
