BREAKING NEWS:Defensive line coach has stepped down from his position as the University of Michigan’s because…

Last weekend, Greg Scruggs, who was then the defensive line coach at Michigan, was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence. In response, Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore suspended Scruggs indefinitely while his legal case unfolded.

Today, Coach Moore announced that Scruggs has resigned from his position, effective immediately, ending his time with the Michigan coaching staff. Moore stated, “I just received notice that Greg Scruggs has resigned his position, effective immediately. I am unable to comment further as this is a University matter.”

Before his tenure at Michigan, Scruggs coached at Wisconsin in 2023 and with the New York Jets the year before. Despite his extensive coaching and playing background, Scruggs’ time at Michigan has come to an end. With Scruggs no longer part of the coaching staff, Michigan will need to fill the vacancy.

Just yesterday, Michigan announced the addition of Pernell McPhee to its staff in a defensive support staff role. McPhee, an 11-year NFL veteran on the defensive line, has a strong relationship with Michigan defensive coordinator Wink Martindale and could potentially fill the open assistant coach position on Michigan’s staff. Moore’s plans for filling the vacant defensive line coaching position have not been disclosed yet.
