Revitalized Hope: Javon Kinlaw Aims to End Jets’ Playoff Drought

Defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw has experienced playoff action in three games since the beginning of the new year, a feat surpassing the number of playoff appearances the Jets have had since 2011. However, Kinlaw remains optimistic that this trend could change in the upcoming season.

Last week, Kinlaw joined the Jets as a free agent, following stints with several playoff-bound teams during his four-year tenure with the 49ers. He cited his familiarity with head coach Robert Saleh and defensive line coach Aaron Whitecotton, both of whom previously worked with him at the 49ers, as factors influencing his decision to join the AFC East team. Kinlaw expressed confidence in the Jets’ roster, believing it possesses the necessary talent to break the NFL’s longest playoff drought and fulfill his aspiration of returning to postseason action.

Reflecting on his playoff experience, Kinlaw emphasized the intensity and energy of postseason games, as well as the financial incentives they offer. Eager to relive those moments, he sees the potential in the Jets’ lineup to make a serious push for the playoffs.

While there was considerable discussion last offseason about the Jets’ playoff prospects, their 7-4 start in 2022 eventually fizzled out. Kinlaw acknowledges that the capability of making a playoff run and actually achieving it are distinct challenges. Nevertheless, the Jets are banking on Kinlaw and their other offseason acquisitions to propel them toward playoff contention and finally transition from talk to action on the postseason front.
