The Carolina Panthers have expressed interest in reuniting with a former Pro Bowl player who previously made a significant impact with the team.
According to Joe Person of The Athletic, the Panthers have initiated discussions with free-agent cornerback Stephon Gilmore regarding a potential comeback to Carolina.

Gilmore, who achieved Pro Bowl status during his tenure with the Panthers in 2021, has reportedly been contacted by the team about the possibility of returning to Charlotte. Notably, Gilmore, who shares a high school alma mater with Jadeveon Clowney, delivered a noteworthy performance with the Panthers, earning his fifth Pro Bowl selection.
In 2021, Gilmore joined the Panthers following a trade with the New England Patriots, showcasing his prowess by securing two interceptions in eight games. Prior to his stint in Carolina, Gilmore established himself as one of the league’s premier lockdown cornerbacks during his tenures with the Patriots and Buffalo Bills. His outstanding defensive skills were recognized when he clinched the 2019 NFL Defensive Player of the Year award while playing for New England.
During the previous season, Gilmore contributed significantly to the Dallas Cowboys after being acquired via a trade with the Indianapolis Colts. Stepping into a crucial role following an injury to Trevon Diggs, Gilmore started all 17 games and recorded a career-high 68 tackles, alongside two interceptions. His performance underscored his enduring capability to compete at an elite level.
