Vikings coach comments on the possibility of considering Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy in the draft

The Minnesota Vikings’ strategy for the post-Kirk Cousins era has become a major focus leading up to the 2024 NFL draft. With Cousins’ departure to the Atlanta Falcons on a lucrative contract, the Vikings are now in search of a long-term solution at quarterback.

The recent trade with the Houston Texans for the No. 23 overall pick, in addition to their existing No. 11 selection, has added to speculation about the team’s plans for the future.

During an appearance on ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show, Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell made a cryptic comment about Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy in response to a remark about the team having room for only one “JJ” (referring to star wide receiver Justin Jefferson) in the locker room.

O’Connell’s comment has fueled speculation about the Vikings’ interest in McCarthy, who has been gaining momentum as a top prospect in the draft and has been linked to several teams, including the Washington Commanders and New England Patriots.

While the true intentions of the Vikings’ front office remain unclear, they are seen as a team that could shake up the draft’s first round with their unpredictable approach.
