Over the past year, Wiley has garnered increasing attention from the Bulldogs, particularly intensifying in recent months following the transition in WR coaching from Bryan McClendon to James Coley. Wiley’s connection with Coley extends beyond his role as Georgia’s wide receivers coach.
With Coley’s return to Athens, Wiley expressed feeling valued and appreciated by the coaching staff. “Me and Coach Coley are cool. We’ve got a really good relationship with each other, so yeah, I think that’s the big thing,” Wiley shared with Dawgs247. “He’s messaging me all the time like I’m a priority. He’s telling me he needs me.”
However, Wiley’s communication extends beyond just Coley. He also maintains regular contact with head coach Kirby Smart and Mike Bobo.
Since unveiling his top 10 list, which included Georgia, in March, the Bulldogs have been unwavering in their pursuit of Wiley. Notably, Wiley visited Georgia during spring practice in mid-March, highlighting the team’s relentless efforts to secure his commitment.
Coach Smart maintains a low-key approach, often checking in with Wiley and expressing the team’s interest. “Coach Smart just keeps it low-key. It’s always, ‘Hey, CJ, how you doing? We want you.’ I probably hear from him about once a week,” Wiley noted. “That means a lot from the head coach.”
Wiley confirmed to Dawgs247 that he has an official visit to Georgia scheduled for the weekend of June 14-16, coinciding with his participation in a 7-on-7 event with his Milton (Ga.) team on June 14. This visit underscores Georgia’s strong position as a top contender for his commitment.
The Bulldogs have a compelling appeal for Wiley, primarily due to their winning track record. “They’re a winning team,” Wiley emphasized. “I just want to find a school that can develop me on and off the field. I want to have a good relationship with the coaching staff. I want it to be a good atmosphere, so I can see myself there.”
A significant advantage for Georgia is Wiley’s close friendship with Georgia tight end commit Ethan Barbour. The two have a history of playing together, starting from middle school football and continuing through high school, with stints at Alpharetta (Ga.) before Wiley transferred to Milton for his junior year.
Barbour has followed suit, joining Milton for his senior season. Their friendship and shared experiences could potentially lead to them reuniting as teammates at the collegiate level.
“It’s great to have him back as my teammate. It’s going to be a fun journey,” Wiley remarked about Barbour. “He’s a dawg with his ability to run routes.”
