Ravens to trade for a Pro Bowler with a $97 million contract.

The Baltimore Ravens have undergone significant changes on defense this offseason. They lost their defensive coordinator to the Seahawks’ head coaching position, as well as their defensive line and defensive backs coaches, who left to become defensive coordinators elsewhere. Additionally, the Ravens have lost key defensive players in free agency. With these changes, the team may need to make a big move to restore their defense to an elite level.

One suggested move is to trade for New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore. Since being drafted 11th overall in 2017, Lattimore has been one of the NFL’s top corners. He won Defensive Rookie of the Year and earned Pro Bowl selections in his first season. Despite struggling with injuries in recent years, Lattimore has remained effective when on the field.

In 2023, Lattimore defended 8 passes in 10 games, allowed opposing quarterbacks to complete less than 60% of their passes when targeting him, and allowed just 6.4 yards per target, a career best. However, his injuries and expensive contract could make him a trade candidate for the Saints.

The Ravens, who had the best defense in the NFL in 2023, are facing a potential drop-off in 2024. They have lost key players like Geno Stone, Jadeveon Clowney, Kyle Van Noy, and Patrick Queen, representing a significant loss of production. The team also lacks depth at cornerback, with Ronald Darby departing in free agency.

Acquiring Lattimore could address the Ravens’ need at cornerback, providing them with a talented player to complement Marlon Humphrey. Despite his injury history, Lattimore’s potential trade value might be reasonable, making him a sensible option for the Ravens in 2024.
