Kansas City Chiefs Secure Carson Wentz as Backup Quarterback

The Kansas City Chiefs have finalized an agreement securing their backup quarterback position behind their esteemed starter, Patrick Mahomes.

According to a report by Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report, former Pro Bowl quarterback Carson Wentz has inked a one-year contract with the reigning champions.

During the previous season, Wentz served as the backup QB for Matthew Stafford of the Los Angeles Rams, where he showcased his capabilities by throwing for 163 yards with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception across 2 games, one of which he started.

With the departure of last year’s backup, Blaine Gabbert, who participated in only two regular-season games, Wentz is anticipated to assume the role of QB2 for the Chiefs.

In his most recent full season as an NFL starter with the Colts in 2021, Wentz demonstrated his prowess by throwing for 3,563 yards with 27 touchdowns and 7 interceptions.

While Mahomes has maintained good health throughout the majority of his career, having missed just four regular-season games since taking the reins as the Chiefs’ starter in 2018, having Wentz onboard provides valuable veteran experience, especially in emergency situations. The former Philadelphia Eagles star boasts 93 NFL starts, only three fewer than Mahomes, adding depth and reliability to the Chiefs’ quarterback room.
