The Vikings are reportedly divided in their interest between North Carolina’s Drake Maye and Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy.
Rumors suggest that the New York Giants are considering pursuing a top-four quarterback in the upcoming draft. ESPN’s Giants beat reporter Jordan Raanan recently stated that it is increasingly likely that four of the top five picks will be quarterbacks. The Minnesota Vikings, who hold the No. 11 pick, have reportedly expressed serious interest in drafting one of the top quarterbacks.
The Giants have shown interest in quarterbacks Jayden Daniels from LSU, J.J. McCarthy from Michigan, and Drake Maye from North Carolina. If their preferred quarterback falls past the Washington Commanders, who have the No. 2 pick, the Giants may consider trading up from their No. 6 spot in the draft.
Teams like the New England Patriots and Arizona Cardinals, who have the No. 3 and No. 4 picks, respectively, could be open to trading back to allow a team to select the third or fourth quarterback in the draft class.
The Vikings, coming off a 7-10 season, acquired the No. 23 pick from the Houston Texans, giving them the ability to offer a lucrative trade package, including two first-round picks in this year’s draft.
If the Patriots or Cardinals are not interested in trading back outside the top 10, the Giants may need to offer a future first-round pick to entice a trade. However, the Vikings’ offer of both their 2024 first-round picks and a future first-round pick could make the Giants’ offer less appealing.
The Vikings are reportedly divided in their interest between North Carolina’s Drake Maye and Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy.
The Vikings are considering both Drake Maye and J.J. McCarthy as potential quarterbacks in the draft, with both emerging as front-runners for Minnesota. Pioneer Press columnist Charley Walters mentioned on April 7 that the Vikings are willing to trade up to secure either quarterback.
Walters wrote, “Minimally, the Vikings probably need to shoot up to No. 4 in the draft to get either of QBs Drake Maye of North Carolina or J.J. McCarthy of Michigan. It’s likely the Vikings would take either.” He also mentioned that to move up to No. 3 for Maye or No. 4 for McCarthy, the Vikings might need to include their first-round pick in 2025 in addition to their current picks at Nos. 11 and 23.
This could be a significant move, especially considering the Vikings’ projected finish at the bottom of their division in 2024, potentially making their 2025 first-round pick a high selection.
