Insights from Woody Johnson on Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s Consideration of Aaron Rodgers as Running Mate

Woody Johnson, the owner of the New York Jets and former United States ambassador to the United Kingdom during the period of 2017 to 2021 under former President Donald Trump, has provided insight into the longstanding reports regarding Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s consideration of Aaron Rodgers as a potential running mate and Vice Presidential candidate.

Johnson’s remarks lend credence to the authenticity of these rumors and reports. He characterized RFK’s contemplation of Rodgers as a “momentary distraction,” drawing a comparison to the quarterback’s controversial participation in a darkness retreat.

Speaking with Fox News, Johnson emphasized Rodgers’ full commitment to football, describing the previous speculation as a passing diversion akin to a temporary withdrawal into seclusion. He praised Rodgers as a formidable leader and expressed optimism about the upcoming season, provided the team can keep him injury-free.

In the realm of presidential politics, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., now running as an independent candidate in the 2024 Presidential election, ultimately selected California lawyer Nicole Shanahan as his running mate in late March.

Turning attention to Rodgers and the Jets, the focus is on redemption following a disastrous 2023 campaign marred by Rodgers’ early-season Achilles injury.

During the offseason, the Jets have bolstered their roster to support Rodgers, acquiring talents such as wide receiver Mike Williams, pass rusher Hasson Reddick (while losing Bryce Huff), offensive tackle Tyron Smith, backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor, among others.

Despite his injury setback, Rodgers remained a fixture in the news, making regular appearances on The Pat McAfee Show, where he made controversial statements, including linking Jimmy Kimmel to Jeffrey Epstein, and expressed ambitious aspirations for his return from injury.

Acknowledging the impracticality of his earlier public hints about returning to play during the 2023 season, Rodgers eventually conceded the unrealistic nature of those sentiments.
