Recent first-round quarterbacks from USC have struggled, but Caleb Williams is expected to excel with the Chicago Bears.
The Chicago Bears have made a significant quarterback decision, opting to trade Justin Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers and start fresh with a rookie. This move was widely expected, as was their likely choice of Caleb Williams as the first overall pick in the upcoming 2024 NFL draft.
With Williams expected to be the top pick, attention now turns to Chicago’s second top-10 selection. Despite some acquisitions in free agency, there remain needs on the defensive line, particularly for an edge rusher, which could be available when they make their pick. Alternatively, they might prioritize the best available player, be it a top wide receiver or offensive tackle, if one falls to them. Considering their limited number of draft picks, just four in total—trading back is also a possibility.
In the latest 2024 NFL mock drafts, experts predict that the Bears will likely seek to provide support for Williams by adding a playmaking receiver like Rome Odunze or Malik Nabers, or bolstering protection with an offensive tackle.
According to NFL.com’s Daniel Jeremiah, the Bears are projected to pair Williams with a top playmaking receiver.
