Jets Land Explosive Wide Receiver in Proposed Trade with…
The New York Jets have various possibilities with the 10th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, including the option to trade down while still securing a top wide receiver prospect such as Brian Thomas Jr. from LSU.
Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay outlined some trade scenarios for the top 10 picks in this year’s draft. For the Jets, Kay proposed a trade back with the Indianapolis Colts, moving down five spots to acquire additional picks.
Here are the details of the proposed trade:
Colts receive: 10th overall pick
Jets receive: 15th, 46th, and 117th overall picks
By trading down, Kay suggests that Thomas could still be a great fit for the Jets.
“Trading down to No. 15 should still allow the Jets to come away with a quality receiver,” Kay wrote. “Rather than reaching for Thomas at No. 10, New York could trade down and then scoop him up at a more fitting spot in the middle of the first round.”
While Thomas may not have the same level of recognition as his LSU teammate Malik Nabers, he would bring excitement and versatility to the Jets’ offense.
Brian Thomas Jr. Scouting Report:
Thomas is currently ranked as the 17th overall prospect on the consensus big board. His college career demonstrates his potential, despite being a late bloomer.
As a highly recruited 4-star player from Louisiana, Thomas chose to play for LSU over other prestigious programs. His breakout 2023 season, which included 68 catches for 1,177 yards and 17 touchdowns, showcased his talent.
With a size of nearly 6’3″ and 209 pounds, Thomas possesses impressive athleticism, highlighted by a remarkable 40-yard dash time of 4.33 seconds.
While route running is an area for improvement, Thomas excels in contested-catch situations and demonstrates burst after the catch. With proper coaching, he has the potential to become an even more impactful player at the NFL level.
Wide Receiver Is a Long-Term Need for the Jets:
Despite offseason moves, including the acquisition of Mike Williams, the Jets still require a long-term solution at wide receiver to complement Garrett Wilson. Drafting a prospect like Thomas could further bolster the Jets’ offensive arsenal and enhance their competitiveness in the upcoming season.
