Montez Sweat Vows Bears Will End Losing Streak Against Packers

Trash talk is a common occurrence in the National Football League, but when it happens in April, it tends to grab people’s attention. A week before the NFL Draft, edge rusher Montez Sweat boldly declared that he refuses to lose to the Green Bay Packers, the Bears’ longtime rivals in the NFC North.

Speaking on the Green Light podcast with former NFL edge rusher Chris Long last week, Sweat acknowledged the need to end the losing streak against the Packers. Sweat has only participated in one Bears-Packers game, which ended in a 17-9 defeat to Green Bay in Week 18. Apparently, that loss was one too many for Sweat.

“I’m telling you right now, I’m not losing to Green Bay this year. I can’t do it. I can’t do it, man. I’m not losing to Green Bay this year,” said Bears edge rusher Montez Sweat.

The Packers have historically dominated the Bears, with Chicago failing to beat Green Bay since Donald Trump was President. The Bears have lost 10 consecutive games and 15 out of the last 16 matchups with the Packers, especially struggling during the Aaron Rodgers era. Even with Jordan Love taking over for Rodgers last season, the Bears still lost both games to their division rivals.

“I’m letting you know right now, man, I’m not losing to Green Bay this year. I can’t do it, I can’t do it, man. I’m not losing to Green Bay this year. We’ve created a real rivalry over there,” Sweat emphasized.

Could this be the season that the Bears finally overcome the Packers? The roster has undergone significant changes, and their biggest addition is expected to come in the first round of the NFL Draft next week. The pieces seem to be falling into place for the Bears to assert themselves in the NFC North.

Montez Sweat #98 of the Chicago Bears

The 2024 season is expected to bring a new era for the Chicago Bears, especially with the anticipated selection of Southern California quarterback Caleb Williams as the first overall pick in the draft. For Williams to win over Bears fans like Sweat, guiding the team to victories over the Packers would be a significant step.

Sweat believes that Williams doesn’t need to carry the team by himself, noting the talented skill players around him.

“Be yourself. Don’t try to do it all by yourself. You got a great group of guys around you. I know you seen the pieces: Keenan Allen, Swift from Philly. We got some guys around him. … He’s obviously a talented guy. Just don’t try to do it all in one night,” advised Bears edge rusher Montez Sweat.
