Nick Chubb

Nick Chubb #24 of the Cleveland Browns

Browns General Manager Andrew Berry provided updates on Nick Chubb’s rehabilitation progress during a pre-draft press conference on Thursday. Berry noted that Chubb has embarked on a significant milestone in his recovery journey by commencing running activities on land in recent days. Despite the positive progress, Chubb is expected to continue individual rehab work rather than participating in organized team activities or minicamps next month, as he recuperates from surgeries to address his major knee injury sustained last season.

The injury occurred during Week 2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers when Chubb was tackled by Minkah Fitzpatrick. To accommodate Chubb’s uncertain return timeline, the Browns restructured his contract, ensuring financial flexibility for both the player and the club. Although the revised deal reduces Chubb’s base salary for the upcoming season, it includes incentives based on his previous performance, allowing him to potentially earn the maximum value of his original contract.

The collaborative effort between Chubb, his representatives, and the Browns organization facilitated a mutually beneficial solution, reflecting a positive partnership amidst contract negotiations. Berry expressed optimism about Chubb’s ongoing rehabilitation and emphasized the anticipation of his return to the field, echoing sentiments shared by Browns VP of football administration, Chris Cooper.

In Chubb’s absence, the Browns will rely on a diverse group of running backs, including Jerome Ford, Pierre Strong Jr., D’Onta Foreman, and Nyheim Hines, supplemented by potential draft selections and acquisitions. With a revamped coaching staff led by Duce Staley and Nick Charlton, the Browns aim to maintain a strong running game while awaiting Chubb’s eventual return to action later in the season.
