Browns Insider’s Message on Deshaun Watson

The focal point of discussion within the Cleveland Browns organization this week revolves around the status of quarterback Deshaun Watson’s shoulder injury and his subsequent rehabilitation process.

Both head coach Kevin Stefanski and general manager Andrew Berry have taken the opportunity to provide updates on Watson’s rehab and recovery during press conferences, in addition to Watson himself addressing the matter during his podium appearance on Tuesday.

Of paramount concern to Browns fans is whether Watson can reclaim his status as an elite NFL quarterback, a level of performance deemed worthy of the significant investment made by Cleveland in trading for him from the Houston Texans with multiple first-round draft picks.

During a recent episode of the “Orange And Brown Talk” Podcast, Mary Kay Cabot, a sports reporter for The Plain Dealer, explored this question alongside co-host Dan Labbe.

Labbe shared Cabot’s analysis on Twitter, highlighting her perspective that a fully healthy Watson has the potential to return to elite quarterback status in the NFL.

Cabot drew a comparison between Watson’s period of inactivity – having played in only 12 games over the past two seasons – and the success achieved by Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith despite extended absences from play.

However, Cabot emphasized that the key to Watson’s resurgence lies in his ability to attain full health for the upcoming season. She pointed out instances from last season, particularly in November games against the Cardinals and the Ravens, where Watson showcased glimpses of his exceptional talent when operating at full capacity.

Highlighting Watson’s exceptional field vision, instincts, and arm strength, Cabot outlined the attributes that could propel him back to elite status in the league.

Labbe echoed this sentiment, noting that Watson’s mobility further enhances his potential to rank among the top quarterbacks in the NFL, particularly within the Browns’ lineup for the upcoming season.
