Yesterday, April 18th, the Detroit Lions revealed their fresh set of uniforms, a customary move for several NFL teams during the offseason. Here’s my take on the Lions’ attire for the upcoming 2024 season.
The Detroit Lions became the second team to unveil new uniforms for 2024, following closely behind the New York Jets. However, the Lions had to accelerate their official release video due to a leak of the new uniforms.
The Lions introduced three new uniforms yesterday. The first two were their standard home and away jerseys, which received minor updates—primarily switching the lettering from gray to white and making some adjustments to the sleeves. Overall, I appreciate these tweaks as they lend the team a more contemporary appearance.
The third uniform, a surprise addition, was an all-black ensemble featuring blue lettering and an alternate blue helmet. This unexpected design caught my eye, and I’m eager to see the Lions don these blackout uniforms during prime-time matchups.
In summary, I believe the Detroit Lions made the right choice in modernizing their previous looks. While the switch from gray to white lettering is visually appealing, I’ll still hold a fondness for their all-gray uniforms.
Other NFL Uniform Updates:
Five teams, including the Texans, Broncos, Lions, Jets, and Jaguars, are slated to unveil new uniforms this year, coinciding with the 2024 NFL draft. The Jets recently revealed their updated uniforms, which bear similarities to their previous ones but also introduced a new logo.
There have been glimpses and leaks of the Texans’ new uniforms, including images of potential alternate helmets, but nothing has been confirmed yet. The Texans are scheduled to unveil their new threads on April 23rd.
Similarly, the Denver Broncos will debut their new uniforms early next week, though they have maintained a level of secrecy compared to the Texans.
Conversely, the Jacksonville Jaguars are expected to reintroduce a throwback uniform for the 2024 season, following a trend seen among many teams in 2023. Fans have been clamoring for the Jaguars to revive an older jersey design, though a specific release date for the throwbacks has yet to be announced.
