Jim Irsay: Colts Show ‘Deep Appreciation’ for Marvin Harrison Jr. Finalizing the Deal

According to Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay, the team holds a “strong” interest in highly regarded Ohio State wide receiver prospect Marvin Harrison Jr. However, Irsay suggests that maneuvering up from their current #15 draft position to secure Harrison Jr. within the Top 7 picks could pose significant challenges.

In a conversation with Mike Chappell of Fox59/CBS4, Irsay explained, “The Colts have a ‘strong’ interest in Marvin Harrison Jr., but moving up from the No. 15 slot into a much higher spot to select the son of Colts’ Hall of Fame receiver Marvin Harrison is probably ‘too difficult’ because of the draft capital Ballard would have to package in a trade.”

Nevertheless, Irsay emphasized that the team remains open-minded about all possibilities come draft day, stating, “I wouldn’t rule anything out.”

Harrison Jr., son of Colts legend Marvin Harrison Sr., is widely regarded as the top wide receiver prospect in this year’s draft class, with many considering him a generational talent. He possesses elite physical attributes and skills reminiscent of his father, making him a highly coveted prospect for NFL teams.

NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah describes Harrison Jr. as having “ideal size, speed, and production,” noting his ability to excel in various aspects of the game, including route running, catching, and physicality.

While Colts general manager Chris Ballard previously referred to trading up for Harrison Jr. as “fantasy-land,” Irsay’s strong connection to the franchise’s former players, particularly its greats like the Harrisons, could influence his decision-making. Irsay has the authority to override Ballard on draft decisions, including the possibility of trading up for Harrison Jr.

Ultimately, if Irsay’s determination to bring the Harrisons back into the Colts fold is resolute enough, he could make the call to pursue the highly touted prospect and solidify a lasting legacy and family connection within the franchise.
