Kadlick’s second-day Patriots mock draft aims to bolster the offense to suit Drake Maye’s style, focusing on adding weapons to enhance the team’s offensive capabilities.

The Patriots’ newly established leadership, led by de facto general manager Eliot Wolf and head coach Jerod Mayo, made a significant impact on Thursday night by selecting North Carolina’s Drake Maye as their next quarterback and the face of the franchise.

Now, their focus shifts to fully supporting him, as Wolf emphasized on Thursday night, by providing him with weapons to throw to and offensive linemen to protect him.

With ample talent still available on the draft board, and potential trade opportunities looming, here’s how the draft could unfold for New England on Friday:

TRADE: In Round 2, Pick No. 34, the Patriots strike a deal with the San Francisco 49ers for wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk.

Rather than making a traditional pick, the Patriots opt to engage in a trade strategy. The San Francisco 49ers find themselves financially constrained at the wide receiver position, with Brandon Aiyuk due for a substantial contract extension and Deebo Samuel approaching the final two years of his current deal. Reports suggest that the 49ers are open to trade discussions regarding both players, and there have been indications of the Patriots’ interest in Aiyuk.

Aiyuk, standing at 6 feet tall and weighing 205 pounds, at 26 years old, brings a wealth of experience and talent. His recognition as a Second-Team All-Pro in 2023 highlights his prowess. Aiyuk perfectly fits the X-receiver role that Eliot Wolf identified as a priority for the Patriots, and he aligns well with the offensive strategies favored by Van Pelt, reminiscent of players like Amari Cooper. Last season, Aiyuk amassed impressive stats, hauling in 75 passes for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns, demonstrating his potential to thrive alongside a talent like Drake Maye.

Round 3, Pick No. 68: The Patriots select offensive tackle Kiran Amegadjie from Yale.

Addressing their offensive tackle need in the third round, the Patriots capitalize on the opportunity to acquire Kiran Amegadjie, who has seen his draft stock slide slightly. Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 326 pounds, Amegadjie earned First-Team FCS All-American honors in 2023. While he may require some refinement in his technique, the Patriots, bolstered by Eliot Wolf’s confidence in the potential of free-agent signing Chukwuma Okorafor at left tackle, view Amegadjie as a promising prospect to provide depth and competition at the position.

With the acquisitions of Maye, Aiyuk, and Amegadjie in the first three rounds, Patriots fans have reason to be excited about the team’s direction.
