Jacksonville Jaguars Add Veteran Wide Receiver Jarvis Landry

After concluding their selections in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars have continued to bolster their roster by adding talent through various avenues.

Following the draft, the team signed 11 undrafted free agents, and two additional players, including Jacksonville State center Trey Brown, and veteran wide receiver Jarvis Landry, participated in the team’s rookie minicamp on May 10-11 on a trial basis. According to NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero, Landry, at 31 years old, is fully recovered from injury and eager to return to action.

Landry’s last NFL appearance was with the New Orleans Saints in 2022, where an ankle injury prematurely ended his season, leading to a year-long absence from the field in 2023. Despite a tryout with the Indianapolis Colts in December, Landry remained unsigned.

Originally selected 63rd overall in the 2014 NFL Draft, Landry made an immediate impact with the Miami Dolphins, setting a franchise record for rookie receptions (84). He continued his success, earning five consecutive Pro Bowl selections, including a franchise-record 110 receptions in his sophomore season.

After a stint with the Cleveland Browns, Landry returned to his hometown Saints before hitting free agency. Despite his accomplishments, Landry’s age and injury history suggest his career may be entering its twilight phase. Among receivers drafted in 2014 or earlier, only a handful ranked in the top 50 for receiving yards last season.

For the Jaguars, Landry’s addition may indicate ongoing efforts to strengthen their receiving corps, even following the selection of Brian Thomas Jr. with the 23rd overall pick in the recent draft.
