The NFL draft is over, and the Cleveland Browns have reportedly finalized their undrafted free agent signings, along with adding a player from the International Player Pathway Program. This, combined with the recent completion of the draft, essentially sets the Browns’ roster for the upcoming offseason activities.
One player whose future with Cleveland was uncertain this offseason was cornerback Greg Newsome II. Newsome’s name was frequently mentioned in trade rumors leading up to the draft, but General Manager Andrew Berry emphasized the team’s intention to retain talented players. Reports indicate that the Browns have indeed exercised Newsome’s fifth-year option, solidifying his place on the team.

Newsome addressed the trade rumors weeks ago, and now, multiple reports confirm that the Browns have picked up his fifth-year option. With the 2024 NFL salary cap announcement, the cost of Newsome’s option was determined, amounting to over $13 million for the 2025 season.
In his three seasons, Newsome has amassed 128 tackles, 29 passes defended, four tackles for loss, two QB hits, two interceptions, and one defensive touchdown. Looking ahead, there may be discussions about extending Newsome’s contract or that of Martin Emerson Jr., both of whom are set to become free agents after the 2025 season.
