Former Derry underage star Jude McAtamney has transitioned to American football, signing with the New York Giants as an Undrafted Free Agent (UDFA). McAtamney, who clinched the Ulster U20FC title in 2018, has spent recent years in the United States pursuing a career as a kicker in American football. He previously played for Rutgers University in New Jersey before securing a deal with the Giants.

McAtamney’s move follows in the footsteps of Charlie Smyth, the Down goalkeeper who recently inked a contract with the New Orleans Saints. Additionally, Monaghan goalkeeper Rory Beggan and Wicklow netminder Mark Jackson, who completed the NFL’s International Player Pathway alongside Smyth, could also attract interest from NFL teams.
