The Chicago Bears have bolstered their wide receiver corps through strategic moves, including the acquisition of Keenan Allen via trade and the selection of Rome Odunze in the draft. With DJ Moore already in their ranks, the Bears now boast an impressive trio of receivers.
However, speculation arises regarding the potential addition of another weapon to support rookie quarterback Caleb Williams. According to Bleacher Report’s Joe Tansey, the Bears could consider pursuing former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Hunter Renfrow.
Renfrow became available after being released by the Raiders in March following two consecutive seasons of limited productivity. Despite playing in every game last season, he recorded only 25 receptions for 255 yards. This decline followed a more fruitful 2022 season during which Renfrow tallied 36 catches for 330 yards and two touchdowns.
Despite recent setbacks, Renfrow has showcased his talent in the past. Selected by the Raiders in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the former Clemson standout enjoyed a strong rookie year with 49 receptions for 605 yards and four touchdowns. He continued to perform well in subsequent seasons, culminating in a breakout 2021 campaign with 103 catches for 1,038 yards and nine touchdowns, earning him a Pro Bowl nod.
Injuries hampered Renfrow’s progress in 2022, leading to a diminished role within the Raiders’ offense. Tansey suggests that Renfrow could offer the Bears a reliable option over the middle, complementing the skill sets of Moore, Allen, and Odunze.
Renfrow’s potential role in Chicago could involve competing with Velus Jones for the fourth receiver spot.
