The Jacksonville Jaguars have prioritized addressing the team’s pass rush during the offseason. Despite acquiring Arik Armstead and Trevis Gipson, the team still faces depth concerns in this area.
Josh Allen excelled as an outside linebacker in 2023, while Travon Walker showed significant improvement in his second year. Nonetheless, there remain notable pass rushers available, including one familiar name the Jaguars may consider re-signing.
While the defensive line presents potential, it lacks experience heading into the 2024 season. Recent draft picks Maason Smith, Jordan Jefferson, and Mason Cole offer promise but may not make immediate impacts.
Apart from Allen and Walker, the Jaguars’ most seasoned pass-rushing option with NFL experience and productivity is likely Roy Robertson-Harris. Despite his best season yielding 3.5 sacks, his consistent contribution over three seasons in Duval County makes him a viable candidate.
The departure of Dawuane Smoot in the offseason left a void in the pass rush, as he provided consistent performances, recording 23.5 sacks in seven seasons with the team.
Considering Yannick Ngakoue, the former Jaguar, presents an intriguing option for the team. Despite a tumultuous departure, Ngakoue’s on-field contributions were significant, averaging eight sacks per season during his tenure with Jacksonville. However, his relationship with the front office soured, leading to a heated exchange with team executive Tony Khan in 2020.
I’m not in hiding sir, I’m in isolation getting ready for the draft. I’ve been pretty active on social media in isolation, but you wouldn’t know that since you unfollowed me (again).

Since leaving Jacksonville, Ngakoue has played for multiple teams but has maintained solid performance levels, registering over nine sacks in two of the last three regular seasons. Despite a lackluster 2023 season with the Bears, his market value may have decreased, potentially making him an affordable option for the Jaguars, who currently possess ample salary cap space.
It’s a new regime here sir. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of the contributions you made here. That said, tweeting insults at me won’t get you traded any faster. Only good trade compensation will do that. Please redirect your efforts into a more productive outlet

Ngakoue’s fit within the Jaguars’ defense would require reconciliation between him and the team’s ownership. However, given the turnover in management and coaching staff since his departure, his veteran presence and skill set could significantly benefit the team’s pass rush, particularly under new defensive coordinator Ryan Neilsen’s aggressive defensive approach.
Show me the compensation. I’m sure you’re really driving up the price today btw.

While Ngakoue has not been linked to Jacksonville this offseason, his desire to rebuild his stock and the team’s need for depth on the defensive line suggest a potential reunion could be mutually beneficial.
