Norvell’s Exodus: A Roster Shake-Up as Superstars Depart from the Seminoles’ Ranks

During head football coach Mike Norvell’s tenure at Florida State University, the football program has benefited from the addition of transfer portal prospects, aiming to bolster its success. The team’s strong performance in the 2023 season, marked by an undefeated regular season and conference championship, was overshadowed by their exclusion from the College Football Playoff.

As the 2024 season approaches, a key focus will be on the coaching staff’s ability to integrate the roster effectively. With notable departures such as quarterback Jordan Travis, Seminole fans will need to acquaint themselves with the new faces donning the garnet and gold.

While previous discussions have centered on incoming transfers, this article shifts the spotlight to the top five transfers that Florida State has lost in recent years. During Mike Norvell’s inaugural season as head coach in 2020, Florida State struggled, finishing with a 3-6 record and few positive highlights to speak of.

However, amidst the challenges, running back La’Damian Webb emerged as a bright spot in Tallahassee. Despite arriving from the JUCO ranks with less fanfare, Webb showcased his talent with 69 carries for 369 yards and three touchdowns.

Central to head coach Mike Norvell’s offensive strategy is a strong emphasis on running the football effectively, a principle he successfully implemented during his tenure at Memphis.

Following Webb’s departure from Florida State to South Alabama, where he found success with 2,074 rushing yards and 29 touchdowns over two seasons, other running backs like Jashaun Corbin and Trey Benson stepped up for the Seminoles. Webb’s performance with the Jaguars highlights the benefits he gained from his transition away from Florida State.
