Breaking News: Dolphins Add Rutgers Offensive Lineman After Exceptional Showing in Tryout

The Miami Dolphins are in the process of finalizing their 90-man roster as they prepare for organized team activities commencing next week. Former Rutgers center, Ireland Brown, has secured a spot on the team following an impressive showing during rookie minicamp tryouts, as initially reported by Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston.

Brown announced his entry into the NFL Draft in January after completing four seasons at Rutgers, although he went undrafted. Throughout his tenure with the Scarlet Knights, he earned the Academic All-Big Ten recognition three times.

Hailing from Jamaica, New York, Brown commenced his collegiate journey as a defensive tackle at Boston College before transferring to Rutgers in 2020. During the 2021 season, he started five games at left guard.

Standing at 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighing 300 pounds, Brown served as the starting center for 11 games during his junior year. However, in his senior season, he appeared in eight games as a backup, with Gus Zilinskas securing the starting position and participating in all 13 games for the Scarlet Knights in 2023.

Brown also participated in the New York Jets Rookie Minicamp but departed Florham Park, N.J. without securing a contract. Miami recently signed former Tennessee Titans center Aaron Brewer to a three-year deal during this offseason, and Liam Eichenberg is expected to serve as the backup unless needed to start at guard.

There remains optimism for Brown, as well as fellow undrafted free agent center Andrew Meyer, to earn positions with the Dolphins. Alama Uluave, another undrafted free agent center from San Diego State in 2023, spent most of the previous season on the practice squad but did not see playing time with the Dolphins.

Competition is set to continue later this month during Miami’s optional OTAs on May 20-21, 23, 28-29, and 31. Mandatory veteran minicamp is scheduled for June 4-6.
