Despite Montgomery’s return, Holmes anticipates an even more remarkable sophomore season for Gibbs. The young running back demonstrated his ability to excel as a focal point in the Lions’ offense, which displayed a knack for generating big plays.

According to Pro Football Focus, Gibbs recorded 27 explosive runs, defined as gains of 10 yards or more, while boasting an impressive average of 3.12 yards after contact per attempt.

Heading into the upcoming season, Gibbs is poised to assume a more substantial workload within the Lions’ offensive scheme.

Holmes emphasized that while Montgomery remains a valuable asset, Gibbs will likely see increased involvement, particularly considering his growth potential in both rushing and passing plays. Reflecting on Gibbs’ rookie season, Holmes noted the gradual development in his understanding of the game’s pace, culminating in standout performances against the Ravens and Raiders.
