Exciting Updates from the Auburn Tigers: New Basketball Recruits Get Jersey Numbers, Plus WR Unveils Transfer Destination

As Auburn basketball continues to shape its roster, three new faces have already joined the squad this offseason: JP Pegues, a transfer from Furman, along with incoming freshmen Tahaad Pettiford and Jakhi Howard.

Pegues, boasting three years of collegiate experience, arrives with credentials as the 13th-ranked point guard in the transfer portal. He’s anticipated to help fill the void left by Aden Holloway and Tre Donaldson, sporting the jersey number 1.

Highly touted 5-star guard Tahaad Pettiford, ranked as the second-best point guard in the class of 2024, committed to Auburn in November last year, adding excitement to Bruce Pearl’s lineup. Following KD Johnson’s footsteps, Pettiford will don the number 0.

Meanwhile, 4-star forward Jakhi Howard, praised by 247 Sports’ Eric Bossi as one of the most athletically explosive players in the class of 2024, will wear number 3.

In other Auburn sports news, former football wide receiver Ja’Varrius Johnson has disclosed his transfer destination. Johnson, a former 4-star recruit, announced via Twitter, through On3 Sports’ Hayes Fawcett, his commitment to UCF. There, he will reunite with former Auburn football head coach Gus Malzahn.

Having stayed loyal to Auburn through various coaching changes, Johnson, part of the class of 2019, will spend his final year of eligibility under the guidance of his initial head coach.

During his five-year tenure with Auburn football, Johnson amassed 1,114 receiving yards and eight touchdowns, along with 83 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
